Sugarland fights to stop bullying

October 6, 2008

Sugarland has joined a group of some of the worlds biggest stars that have committed to support Love Our Children, a nonprofit organization that aims to eliminate behaviors that keep children from reaching their potential. As a show of support for the organization, Sugarland is auctioning off 2 VIP tickets to the Nov. 7 Sugarland concert in Kissimme, Florida. To place a bid visit Charity Folks and search for Sugarland. If you don’t win the auction, there are still plenty of Sugarland tickets still available. Visit the site for more information on the Sugarland tour and Sugarland tickets.

The First Annual Celebrity Auction is taking place now and runs through October 20. Proceeds from the auction will go towards bullying and cyberbullying prevention, education and peer mentoring in schools. Other celebrities that have joined the effort include John Cusack, Elton John, Bette Midler, Dancing with the Stars, Ellen Degeneres and more. As part of the effort to stomp out bullying, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg recently proclaimed October 5 – 11 as “Love Our Children USA’s Bullying Prevention Awareness Week.”

The organization takes child bulling quite seriously. According to the Love Our Children website, “Every year over 3 million children are victims of violence and almost 1.8 million are abducted. Nearly 600,000 children live in foster care. Every day 1 out of 7 kids and teens are approached online by predators and 1 out of 4 kids are bullied.” The group has come up with a solution to the problem: prevention. “Getting to the root of the cause through education and changing behaviors and attitudes. Loving and nurturing children. Stopping Violence BEFORE it starts — creating happy and healthy children … Keeping Children Safe.”
