Taylor Swift Releases New Track
May 10, 2011
Sugarland’s fellow CMA Fest 2011 performer Taylor Swift released a new track this week. The song is titled Mean and is part of an informal campaign by artists everywhere to discourage bullying that leads to disastrous consequences. Swift also released a colorful video for the track featuring herself on the banjo and in a 20s-style heist film tied up on the train tracks by an evil villain. The video tells the stories of a series of young people who rise up and fulfill their dreams despite being bullied. Taylor Swift and Sugarland are on tour now.
Jennifer Nettles Duets
May 10, 2011
Sugarland is known for covering other musicians work at their shows. From Madonna to R.E.M. and Britney Spears to Cee-Lo Green, Sugarland has covered songs by all of them. It would seem natural then for Sugarland co-founder Jennifer Nettles to take the next step and perform with other artists, like she did recently at the Academy of Country Music Awards when she performed California King Bed with this moment’s IT-girl Rihanna. Looking for some crossover potential, the ACMs reached out to Rihanna who though Nettles would be a good match for the song. Duets are already old hat to Nettles who has also performed with New Jersey rocker Bon Jovi and UK sensation Adele, but it begs the question, when is a Jennifer Nettles solo album coming out? Nettles remains mum on the topic but perhaps when the time is right…in the meantime, you can catch Jennifer Nettles and Sugarland on their Incredible Machine Tour!
